How to Make Hand Sanitizer at Home

With everything happening with COVID-19, you may find that stores are out of essential items like Toilet Paper, Lysol Wipes, or Hand Sanitizer! We want to show you an easy and cost-efficient way to make Hand Sanitizer at home!

Materials:

2/3 cup of Isopropyl Alcohol ( needs to be 60% or higher to work according to the CDC)

1/3 cup of Aloe Vera Gel

Squeeze bottle of your choice

Optional: Vitamin E oil, lemongrass, lavender or any other essential oil (this is just to mask the smell of the Alcohol and they’re good for your skin!) and a funnel (to pour into the bottle)

Directions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, pour your Alcohol, Aloe Vera Gel and 4-5 drops of oils ( recommend not mixing strong smells but you can mix Vitamin E and a strong smell)
  2. Mix the materials using a whisk until you see a thicker consistency
  3. Pour it into your bottle (using a funnel if you have it) and store it wherever you’d like!

And that’s it! Super easy, and it’s very important to use hand sanitizer when you can’t wash your hands. Place these bottles in your car, on your bedside table, your workroom ( if you’re working from home) and wherever you might need it! Remember, washing your hands is very effective (when done properly) and is still the best way to keep your hands clean, however, sometimes you may not have access to a sink and soap so you will need hand sanitizer. Hopefully, this was easy to follow and saves you money while still being safe!

How to wash your hands:

  1. Water your hands first
  2. Then apply your soap and lather for 15-20 seconds
  3. Then Rinse

Sounds simple enough, right?

Be safe, wash your hands, and practice social distancing!
